One of the benefits of zoo membership is repeated trips to see animals that are a little shy. It took us three visits to see the Polar Bear playing at the Detroit Zoo but it was certainly worth it. From the great vantage point cut into their swimming pool, getting this close to a Polar Bear is an incredible experience.

ReplyDeleteYeah shame the Arctic foxes are even harder to spot! The Toledo Zoo's pretty good too for the polar bears, although they don't have all that open green space.
Deletethe polar bear has other symbolism in this area as well. It was the name of a Regiment of men mostly from Michigan that fought during the Russian Revolution.
