LIFE: The Colours of Fall

FallLeaves1 FallLeaves2

Weather has taken a turn here in Michigan. The last week has been met with temps down in the 30's (F) and snow showers. Breezy days have left us with a crisp golden carpet of leaves as you step outside our back door. Crisp yellows, burnt golds and warming reds, they cover your shoes, they crunch beneath your feet.

As the weather gets colder, the days shorter, the leaves are dying and getting swept into garden bags, the beauty, the color soon becoming a fading memory. After saving a handful the other week, I took to scanning them - a final way to remember the autumn that was. A way to record, a way to remember those colours.

Sometimes I wish the trees could be those reds, the oranges, the yellows throughout the year, but then, I guess they wouldn't be so special.

  2. One of my favorite things about fall is the leaves! I probably should have collected some this year. :)

  3. Can't report any snow here... I'm hope for a little bit. Just a little. Nothing crazy like you guys had last year! I hope that doesn't happen again.
Ahh, you scanned them, that's a really nice idea and explains how they look so life size :) Guess you could press them now and keep them even longer.

I really enjoy your writing style btw :)

    1. I hope so to, although i've heard forecasts that say we'll have less snow and ones that say it'll be just as bad. Considering how early it's snowing this year, i'm not too hopefully!

I love how the scan brings how just how pretty and colorful they are, well were, I had to press them for a while to get them flat but it was lots of fun playing with them!

  6. They're such lovely colours. Our leaves are pretty much all gone now except from the ones that still clutter the drains and cause flooding on the roads. The colours are my favourite thing about autumn so it's always a little sad when they disappear but there's always next year! I wonder if we'll get any snow this year. Last year we only had the lightest dusting once and to be honest I felt a bit cheated!

    1. There's some stubborn ones left on our maple tree but most have fallen off now, they aren't colorful anymore either, just boring browns. It's amazing where I was raking them out from yesterday, they seem to go everywhere! I love looking at snow and seeing it fall, but yeah, having to go out in it, that's never fun especially when it's bitterly cold and it just lingers for weeks on end!

  7. I loove when the leaves change - it has been pretty lovely here in London as well but they are all starting to drop! I always appreciate it a bit more as in NZ about 90% of the trees are ever green so you don't get the change in the Autumn! x

    1. Yeah i'm glad we have a pine tree in our garden, it would be bleak right now without it and it looks pretty with the snow on it I must admit!

  8. Such beautiful leaves, I cannot believe you scanned them, they look unreal! The autumn leaves in NYC are being swept away by all the rain. They're all so muddled together, I wish I could've saved some and press or scan them like you did. Lovely blog :)

    Keep in touch!

  10. It was FREEZING today! The high was around 50 degrees... plus it was raining! Worst combo ever! Pretty neat idea to scan the leaves! I don't think I've ever seen a red leaf before... I really can't remember. If I do see one I'm grabbing it and scanning it just like you did! :D

  11. Winter seems to have happened all of a sudden! It's been in the 20s and 30s here, and all the leaves seem to have disappeared off the trees overnight! Now I'm just hoping it warms up a little bit so raking the leaves up isn't too miserable. Scanning leaves is such a cool idea!
