CREATIVE: Fiddle Dee Dee!

Fiddle

I'll be the first to admit that quote stitching which is all the rage these days and as an extension, submissive stitching isn't normally my cup of tea. Yet, a quote, a line seemed to be the only way to go with stitching something to mark my reading, finally of Gone With the Wind (one of my 30 before 30's).

Cross stitch designs for Gone With the Wind that are already hanging around on the internets weren't really doing anything for me, so as always, it was a chance to create my own. Thinking of lines from the book, Scarlett's fiddle dee dee seemed like an obviously choice. It's a line she repeats throughout the story, one uttered when she's expressing some kind of impatience or scorn whether it's the men constantly talking about the chance of going to war with the Yankees or how marriage is just for fun for men.

So the wording was pretty simple enough - I actually came across a cross stitch writing tool which is pretty handy if you want to work out and design your own quotes or samplers. And the heart flower wreath design is a free design from Luli, it became my final start of 2014 and my first finish of the new year and in the process, another addition to my embroidery hoop wall.

Fiddle dee dee indeed!

  1. This looks fab! I am the same and don't often do quote pictures, but I do like how they look - the heart design is really nice too. I definitely need to do another cross stitch soon! x

  2. The wreath design is really nice, simple yet cute. I haven't read Gone With The Wind, but I might have a listen if I can find the audiobook for it :)

Quotes are strange. The internet loves quotes, but I have to be in the mood for one, or it has to be one I personally choose. This makes so much more sense than just a random quote, as it's something personal to you.

Here's to lots of crafty success in 2015!

    1. I'm sure it's out there on an audio book - and i'll keep you entertained for a good couple of days for sure I imagine (it's over 1000 pages!) so you can hide away from your colleagues for a while listening to it!

Yeah the big internet love for quotes, never really got that and I can't say a quote would have the power enough to change me/my intentions like some give them credit for!

    1. I've been a fan of the film and everything about the film - Vivien Leigh, the music, but while I've been around the book for decades too, it's always been on my too read list and I've never done anything about it. I think the sere size of the book was a little off putting, that and having such high expectations of it, I didn't want it to be a disappointment - luckily it hasn't been!

  5. I think it's a lovely design! I have yet to read Gone with the Wind. I started it a long time ago but life got in the way and never went back to it. Maybe I should.

    1. It's certainly a book that demands your time - I guess a book that size always will, but I think it's well worth it!

  6. Love this design, not too fussy so it doesn't detract from the quote x

  7. I love this. It looks so cute and has such a lovely simplicity to it. I really want to give cross stitching a go, maybe sometime this year. Even if I only do it once I'd love to say I'd given it a go!

    1. Thank you! Mine's an early 1950 edition, but there's so many old prints of that book around - I always stumble across them at estate sales!
