DETROIT: The Zoo!

Another weekend, another zoo, this one being the one that's only a ten or so minute drive from our apartment - the Detroit Zoo. Visiting on Martin Luther King day [Monday] we spent a couple of hours wander around with groups of families amongst a covering of snow and iced up ponds, upon which many animals seemed to be at home - especially the geese. While some of the animals had been taken off exhibit because of winter/snowy weather there was still plenty to see. I particularly loved the conservatory filled with tropical butterflies which are always great to try and photograph and the underwater tunnel within which seals and the polar bears can swim above your head. Saying that, I think we've run out of zoo's till we figure out where to venture to for a holiday/road trip.

    1. Yeah the butterflies were so gorgeous, yet they seemed way more keen on flying then sitting still to be photographed!

    1. A lot of my photographs end up blurry, my camera can be a bit slow too so the animals always move before I get my chance. Butterflies can be the worse to photograph too, but when they settle down on a leaf they can get so still which is perfect!

  13. These pictures are incredible. The underwater tunnel sounds cool, I wish the Salt Lake City zoo had something like that. Were you able to see any polar bears in it?

    1. Sadly not, they were both sunning themselves in the muddy remains of the snow. Apparently they use the water rather a lot so we were just unlucky. They share the same pool with some of the seals though so we got to see one of them swimming whilst we were under the tunnel.
