DETROIT: From The 13th Floor

Greektown Detroit Greektown Detroit Greektown Detroit Greektown Detroit Greektown Detroit

Some of the best views of the Detroit skyline can be found upon the 13th floor of the Greektown Casino while you're stood waiting for the elevator (yes really). Take a quick glance out the window and you'll spy the vivid unmistakeable red brick of the St Mary Roman Catholic church in the foreground, so vivid against the cream, the beige brick of it's historical counterparts that came to make up Downtown, their façades reflecting against the exterior of the Renaissance Center which sits alongside the Detroit riverfront - a symbol of their modern counterparts. Greektown is always busting with life - Greek music is always playing, street artists drawing, people coming and going from some of the best eateries Detroit has to offer. Slowly but surely the skyscrapers office spaces are refilling as businesses relocate to the city or are being refurbished into apartments, Downtown Detroit can't be written off just yet.

It's all a very grand sight to look out upon, to stop a while and take it all in.

    1. Yeah after standing on the Skydeck in Chicago (107 I think) floors up on a glass ledge, I do a little better with heights these days!

    1. Yeap, there's certainly worse views to look at while waiting for an elevator to arrive!

  5. That first shot is pretty cool. I don't normally take pictures from there though.

    2. I did take a ship picture from up there once but the best I could do was the 12th floor of the parking garage (winter and all). The ship was in the Belle Isle Anchorage.

  6. That is such a pretty church. I love the red brick, it really pops in its surroundings! I'm useless with heights nowadays. They never used to bother me but now I get all jelly-legged even if I'm only a few floors up. How lame!

    1. Pittsburgh is a test for my head for heights when we're up on Mt Washington so the casino car park in Detroit doesn't feel so bad after that!

    1. People love to right the city off, but it's still living. If you ever get the chance to visit you certainly should - tonnes of stuff to see and visit, plus some amazing places to eat!

  9. The Catholic Church red brick is so stunning especially between the more grey modern buildings, but they still look pretty darn good x

    1. There isn't actually too much difference in the age of the buildings between the skyscrapers and the church - only 30/40 years between most of them. Granted the casino is pretty new (built in 2000) but I do love how everything downtown blends really well with colour popping out all over the place.
