LIFE: Snow Days

Snow 2014 Snow 2014 Snow 2014 Snow 2014 Snow 2014

You might of heard about or be experiencing this crazy times of snowmageddon 2014 that's leaving it's snowy and bitterly cold trail over the US. We got a dumping of the white stuff on Thursday but come Saturday night it snowed all the way until Monday morning. For that Joe got a snow day from work (yey).

How much snow we actually got (probably 8-10 inches) would depend on where you stuck a ruler and the snow drifts have altered the landscape after the howling winds of Sunday night. In some places snow is creeping past the basement windows, over your knees and nearly covering the fire hydrants. It's weird though, it wasn't heavy heavy snowfall, it just appeared and kept on adding up. Our car had a nice 4" winter snow jacket on by the time we had to venture out to the post office come Monday afternoon.

The -14C temperatures on Monday wasn't too constructive to be spending too long outside with my camera so it was more of a quick dash around - it's even been too cold for the kids around us to build snowmen. While the snow may been lessening off for now, instead we're now as I type this it's -24C and our apartment is struggling to keep warm.

Stay warm folks!

  1. We got about 4 inches where I am and it's pretty much gone now. I know everybody is talking about how cold it is, but it is honestly SO cold! I got home late last night from work and just walking to my car and into the house, even with gloves on, I barely had movement in my fingers and once I got inside after a few minutes they started burning when they were heating back up. It was a little scary that only a few minutes outside could cause that!

    1. I know what you mean - when we were digging the car out yesterday, even with my huge walking boots on, some snow got between the inside flap of the boots and jeans and even though I cleared it out pretty quickly, it took a couple of hours for my leg to warm back up. There was that burning feeling that you mentioned, was a scary feeling.

      Hoping it gets "warmer" soon!

  2. Oh my god - i love the snow but those temperatures for areas that aren't used to it must be scary. I've been to -35 in a ski resort and you nose hairs and eyelashes freeze at that temperature. It's freaky.
    Stay warm and safe. x

  3. Looks really pretty, but watching it from inside..Hehe! We didn't have any snow this year, and usually we do get lots (in eastern Europe). And it actually feels like spring here. It's so weird.

    1. I remember growing up in Yorkshire with really proper snowy winters which seemed to stop so I somewhat should be use it to this, but the temp is something else! It's weird when seasons are so unseasonal - we had a really warm autumn - I think we're playing for it now!

  4. Hearing a lot about this on the news and I can safely say that I'm definitely not jealous but I hope you're staying warm and doing okay. Luckily we haven't had snow here yet. I'm really hoping that it doesn't come at all!

  5. Stay warm! Might be time to invest in an electric blanket if you don't already have one.

  6. Your pictures are again gorgeous. I can't imagine those temperatures and all that snow. I hope you're keeping safe and as warm as possible! We haven't had any snow this winter except from a few flakes. I don't know whether or not I'm disappointed by that. On the one hand it looks so pretty but on the other hand it makes people a bit crazy on the roads and so it's a nightmare for the other half getting to work.

    1. I never thought i'd ever experience temps like that I will be honest, and it's certainly not something I want as our normal that is for sure. Then again the last month has barely ever been over freezing! I know what you mean about the roads, although they seem to cope better here than in the UK, saying that there's still people that drive like jackasses regardless of the weather! Joe said there were a lot of cars in ditches on the roads yesterday.

    1. Shame it's been too cold to go out and play in it, even for a snowball fight. 15 or so minutes out there and you'll be catching frostbite which takes the fun away for sure!
