Yesterday we got back from a bit of a whirlwind of a trip to Pittsburgh for thanksgiving - a mix of seeing family and attending Joe's high school reunion. But it was also a couple of days to cram in as much great eating and drinking and trying to avoid all the mad black Friday sale shoppers.
While I was defeated by yet another Primanti Bros sandwich (a Pittsburgh staple where you get your fries inside your sarnie) we did have some lovely cocktails from their bar, including a Drunk Duck which came with it's very own mini duck which is now finding it's home here in Michigan. I also found the best fish n chips since moving to the US in a Scottish themed pub - The Piper's Pub in Pittsburgh's South Side. The pub was jam packed for the Premiership games they were showing, and after a 40 minute wait for a table, I was greeted with a pile of fish that was battered just how you'd get back in the UK and actually, thick chips. Nom indeed.
Happy Thanksgiving for last week :)

Happy belated Thanksgiving! I love knowing that should I ever end up in the US I'll probably have a better chance of finding my favourite Scottish foods than I do here in England. :D
ReplyDeleteBeautiful pictures - that mural is incredible!

Yeah every city has at least one Scottish/Irish/English themed something or other! No Haggis mind, that's banned from being imported!
DeletePittsburgh has some great street art across the sides of buildings, always so fun to come across them.
Ooh I love Pittsburgh! Hope you had a fun weekend!
ReplyDeleteSo do I, wish we had more time to explore the city that's for sure!
DeleteThat sandwich looks amazing, and as for the fish and chips...jealous!
ReplyDeleteI've yet to find some good fish and chips in Belgium but a friend of mine pointed me to a place that apparently does the best fried breakfast, so might have to go check that out!
ReplyDeleteHigh school reunions sounds a little painful... I don't think I'd want to go to mine. Hope you had a lovely time though!
Hurray for finding the best fish and chips in the US! :D I am glad you had a great Thanksgiving... Black Friday shoppers are crazy. I avoided the stores on Friday and went grocery shopping on Saturday morning... it was soooo quiet and empty. It was wonderful :D

Very cool pictures of Pittsburgh. I need to find my way back there someday. It looked like a pretty neat city and I feel like I should spend more than the day I did.
ReplyDeleteSpeaking of fish and chips...have you ever been to Connor O'Neils in Ann Arbor? It's an Irish Themed Pub, but I think they serve fish and chips and what not.
Woo hoo for a Scottish themed pub. It's only really Scottish though if it serves Irn Bru ;) I love the little rubber duck floating about in your drink. Kami and I used to collect rubber ducks at the beginning of our relationship as a bit of a joke. Ended up with about 15-20 of them in all different sorts of designs :)
