Crocheted Blanket in a Heatwave

Crochet blanket

America may be having it's warmest year on record and we're constantly hitting the high 30s [even getting into the 40s at the end of last week] but to me that is apparently the best time to sit under a blanket while crocheting. I've never been one for logic. I started this project earlier this year as a blanket to throw in the car, and finally got determined enough at the weekend to finish it off with a border. I've always loved the ripple crochet effect which is achieved by repeatedly adding and taking treble stitches away at the same point. There's no true scheme to the colours either because I was just using up all the balls of wool I already add - although the purple was repeated every seven colours. I have a yearning for another blanket with granny squares but I'm not sure how many blankets a girl can get away with having ... this is already the second.

Now this has to be the perfect excuse to go on a picnic, right?!

  1. I love your blanket - the wave pattern is lovely. I am a beginner crocheter myself and have only finished one blanket so far. Nothing so fancy as this though!

    1. Thank you! I always use to just crochet granny squares or at least in rounds so this made a change.

  2. Gorgeous, I've recently crocheted my first cardigan and am totally in love with it. I can't stop wearing it, even though the weather is a lee-tle bit too warm! xx

    1. Thank you Louisa, while I love sometimes using just a couple of colours, I can get quite bored of a limited colour choice.

    1. Haha I normally just do it in front of the TV as something to do with my hands. Sometimes it does feel like i'm getting nowhere with crocheting, especially when it starts getting longer and it has a weight to it.

  6. WOW! I really love your blanket. It is so beautiful!!!!
Yes I think a picnic is in your future.hehe.

Here around Kansas City the weather had been mostly normal.
We had a few days some record was broken...but that happens most years.
All we needed this year was a little more rain as it is very dry.
Our crops are doing ok and harvest is giving us good grain with high yields.
I love the book your are reading. Joan and I just finished reading the
ending to a very sleepy hubby. We may need to read the ending to him again as I think he fell asleep the last few pages.lol. Joan and I needed sleep by we could not put the book down...we keep wondering if Victoria would ultimately find love? Most awesome book.

    Love, Joann

    1. Its such a great book and I loved the ending - certainly kept me guessing about what was going to happen. I seem to be working my way back through all the Christie novels!

    1. Yeah sometimes I need a break from doing projects like this because they sometimes can feel like it's never ending. Especially when you get to the point when you know the pattern inside/out or it's just the same line repeatedly. Sucks about the weather - I could do with it being a little colder here!

    1. Some granny squares can be a nightmare, I'm always making ones that end up being different sizes even though they have the same number of rounds. After finishing this blanket really wanting to get back to basics and make granny squares!
