After we couldn't adopt Big Red we went to the second kitty that captured our heart, his name; Smokey. As with all pets that end up in rescue shelters they all have a history and Smokey's is an interesting tale to tell. He was apparently found hanging around a burnt out apartment [hence his name from the smell of smoke], whether it was his former home or he just happened to be in the area no one knows but he was taken in. He's a cute gorgeous little dude, Russian blue in colour and ever so tiny and shy. Every time we saw him his little pen he was always sleeping, he wraps himself up so tight. He really is adorable.
Because we already have a cat called Ed, they are currently being separated, so Smokey is living in our bedroom until they both get use to the idea of each others smells and hearing each one another. As soon as we released him from the cat carrier he ran under the bed and has stayed there pretty much ever since. While we were asleep he ventured out, had a play around the bedroom, attacking newspaper and sat on the window still. We know he's coming out to eat, drink and use the litter tray so we know he's looking after himself, we just can't rush it with this little man. I'm just making sure I pop in every couple of hours to talk to him so he gets use to us although I got super lucky managing to grab these couple of snaps while getting dressed and he ventured back to the window. He even let me stroke him, so we are getting there.
So our weekend will be spent looking after him and chilling out, maybe we'll introduce Ed and Smokey but I don't think that is something we should rush.

ReplyDeleteYeah he is definitely getting braver, he's been sitting up on the bed most of the afternoon/night rather then under it so we're heading in the right direction!

DeleteHe is really cute. It is such a great thing adopting pets from the pound, you really make a huge difference to their lives, and they do to yours! I'm really happy for you :D

Yeah, i've adopted cats in the past from the pound and i always thinks its the best way to give them a new life. Just wish we could adopt more but then i'd be a totally crazy cat lady!
DeleteAwww Smokey is so cute :) I hope they both get along :)

So do I, I think we'll have to take it slowly, more for the sake of the cat we already have rather then smokey he was already sharing a cage with another cat so we know he's okki with fellow kitties.
DeleteSaying "Hi" to Smokey!!

Visit when you can.

ReplyDeleteP.s Had to comment again - spent some time reading your blog and see you are a 25 year old Yorkshire lady just moved to the States. I've done exactly the same thing and same age and also from my beloved Yorkshire but moved to Canada. Reading your blog with interest, and believe me I'm reading lots of your posts and nodding my head - Canada is not so savage as the States for getting into, but I've had lots of the same stresses along the way it seems! So much to learn and explore in a new country right?! It can be so overwhelming sometimes, and England seems so far away!! xxx
ReplyDeleteHey and thank you for your comment, I think mid twenties are when a lot of people do and we just tend to make huge mileage between out homeland. Maybe it's something about Yorkshire?! lol I really can't wait to visit Canada it's so annoying that it's so close, like literally a twenty minute drive away and I just can't get there yet. I know what you mean about having so much to learn, you'd think North America wasn't too different, but coins *always* confuse me lol xx
DeleteDoes your current visa standing restrict you from leaving the country? We are currenty just on 3 year permits here so been venturing into the states plenty. I love that it's only a car ride away!! I find coins baffling still, especially when you are on the spot in a store! Also brands and food shopping - I'm a big cook so gone to look for ingredients seVeral times to find they dont exist, or if they do they're called something totally different! And people here seem to think I'm from Australia?! Never heard that before I got here with my accent, baffles me how they can misinterpret my accent that way but then again some American and Canadian accents sound the same to me so...*shrugs*!!! xxx
DeleteYeah because I'm applying for residency at the moment I can't leave the country at all. And no one really knows how long that will take either. Saying that there is plenty to see here but with it being so close I really want a peek! I totally get asked where i'm from, and then they think you always live in London and then they go on and on about royalty! The post lady yesterday was very surprised I would choose to leave the UK for the USA! xx
DeleteThat is such a gorgeous cat! Cats often have issues with each other at first, but I'm sure they will learn to get along over time.
ReplyDeleteYeah Ed's being a little pissy and not her normal self but she knows there's another cat around but for smokey's sake think just going to leave it a couple more days before they physically meet.
DeleteOh me oh my, is he adorable!! I have been begging my husband to let us get another kitty cat, he is fighting me but I think we need one. Our little Moby cat needs a friend.
ReplyDeleteYeah companionship is another of the reasons why we got him because of giving Ed a friend [I wonder if she'll be pleased about that but ya know!]!!
DeleteOh my he is an adorable little man!!! :) He has amazing big eyes! I want him. xx
ReplyDeleteAw he's so cute!
ReplyDeleteSmokey is very, very cute! What a cheeky face! :-)
ReplyDeleteJem xXx
Awwww he is so cute and looks so intrigued looking out the window! xxx
ReplyDeleteaw so cute <3 what great names you gave your cats (': x
ReplyDeleteWhat a cutie pie!
ReplyDeleteGood luck with smokey! Hes adorable :)
ReplyDeleteSmokey's a real cutie.
ReplyDeleteaww smokey is so cute!! and i love the story of how his name came to be!!
ReplyDeleteohh i hope he gets along with ed soon.. i know how difficult it can be.. we had our older dog napoleon for 2 years before we got josephine and the first month he wouldn't even look at her it was awful.. now they can't sleep without sleeping cuddled up against each other :)
Yeah they were okay to a point when meeting, think just have to work on Ed and i'm sure they'll get on. They'll probably have their moments still but I guess it's strange when your use to having the whole apartment to yourself and then there's this stranger being brought in.
DeleteHello cutie :)
ReplyDeleteHow adorable is your new kitty, too cute
