Pack pack packing stress

When it comes to any kind of moving one of the hardest things to do is to go through your stuff and sort. It also makes me realise how much junk i've kept from even before my university days. I still have countless files of my A Level work yet alone from my degrees. When it comes to immigrating everything gets sorted by memories and the potential of being able to replace it in America, so all the vintage crochet patterns get to migrate with me as do English branded nail varnishes. The latter of which is currently standing at 16 bottles - yeah there really is a problem there! I've been sending parcels over to America for the past two weeks - it isn't cheap [averaging about £8 a parcel] but it's worth it knowing i'll have some of my things there already.

To help my head to remain focus I keep writing to do lists - they are huge from sorting out all my banking [yeah still not done that] to my ISA, how to pay off my student loan whilst aboard, getting some dollars, buying some woolie clothes and dying my hair to just start you off. I keep just wanting to sort out the wedding and the honeymoon - that's much more fun. As you can see I do often get the case of head in the sand when it comes to the important things! Hopefully i'll get most of it sorted next week - well I need to really.

Tomorrow is my last day at work, it's been an odd week - slightly like the week you have before the summer holidays when your at school. I haven't been able to get my head into focusing onto things so I guess I feel a bit of a spare part. Plus it's been a quiet week so I've spent most of it filing and listening to some of their random lines they draw up in conversation - like moving to America will mean me putting on weight, wondering if i'm crying about it yet and why aren't I, constantly asking what my parents think about it and how I don't know what Joe's really like because we've never properly lived together.  #sigh.

If you had to move countries what would you find hard to leave behind? Material or emotionally?

  1. Sounds like you're having fun!
God I hate moving, it was bad enough moving like four streets back in June, can't imagine having to move so far! Hope everything is going well for you sweetie :)

  2. So, speaking from experience it's a little bit of both worlds that ends up catching you. Mentally, I'm missing hearing anyone else that sounds like me. I'll watch American shows on the telly even if they're ones I hate, just to hear someone with an accent like mine. I miss the Mountains that I left behind and even the cold beaches of the Pacific NorthWest. I miss my badass mixer that could mix anything, including kneading bread dough. I miss my awesome hairdresser that I could always rely on to make me look fabulous and the massage therapist who could work miracles on me. Trying to find replacements for them, but no luck yet. I miss being able to get just about anything I want, at any time of day or night, on any given day. So, if myself or one of the kids got sick, and it was dead of the night and I needed to run to get medicine - no worries. If it's a Sunday night here, you're out of luck from 4 p.m. till they reopen Monday morning. I miss Mexican restaurants on every corner as well as coffee shops every time you walk 5 feet. Weirdness yeah? There's a lot I love here and it surprises me how much I miss. Good luck luv!

  3. Thank you guys! I know there's lots of things I can't take, like my Singer sewing machine and a load of books and old things but I don't know, maybe I have too much junk anyway!

  5. Oh Rachael, my heart goes out to you. You have something you want, but there's a lot of other stuff that has to be dealt with. Sending best wishes.

  7. Haha I think we're getting there slowly, I keep refinding things i've forgotten about and then you remember how heavy just normal everyday things are and its a battle with weight limits suitcase and post office wise. Luckily I don't have that many clothes [at least not to take with me] so in theory slightly more suitcase room!

  9. Im a 'to do' list diva, always got one on the go and had a huge one when I went back-packing round the world for a year so I cant even imagine all the sorting out you have to do to move to another country as well as sort a wedding - you are super woman! Must be really hard too sorting out what to take and send and what to leave behind. Scarlett x
