LIFE: A Happy List

Fall Fall

Last week became one of those endlessly busy weeks. From working, trying to get the spring bulbs planted, being ill and all the new seasons of TV shows restarting, it was a little none stop. So here we start a brand new week, seven promising days of hope. Actually tomorrow marks my 28th birthday, I guess i'm properly a grown up by now - or at least I should be. Saying that, since becoming an expat birthdays make me cranky, I've lost interest in them (same can be said to a point about Christmas). I guess distance does that. So while I'd somewhat like to push my birthday under the carpet and forget about it, I am off to bake myself a marshmallow and chocolate birthday cake. Just because.

So while I might be cranky and a way of catching up with myself, here's some happy things;

// new episodes of agents of shield and modern family - for the win

// drinking so much tea

// scoring the final the mamas and the papas vinyl I needed to complete the collection

// battling my dentist phobia to get my tooth fixed

// ebay auction wins

// halloween oreos

// weather in the 70s

// spying leaves slowly turning to yellows, oranges and reds

// planting 100+ spring bulbs

// working away every afternoon to will and grace marathons on we tv

// cross stitching after a long break

// joe <3

// sushi bar birthday treat (highly recommend Sushi Gallery if you're ever in my neck of the woods)

// feeling accomplished in tidying up the den and basement

// early sunday morning spent apple and raspberry picking at the orchard

What would be on your happy list?

  1. Haha when I first read this I was like "Weather in the 70s? Why would the weather in the 1970s make someone happy?" You see? You're fully amalgamated now - you think in farenheit!

    1. Haha yeah, Joe doesn't understand it when I talk in C, so I'm starting to figure it all out. Oddly though, I only ever really use F in the summer, in the winter, I stick to the C, probably because of the use of minus numbers to make it sound colder lol. Can't translate between the two mind you!

  2. I love your happy list - I've been ill too: I hate how it just wipes you. Still suffering from a fever now...

  3. A marshmallow and chocolate cake sounds delicious! wow 70s weather... definitely JEALOUS! I don't think we have hit the 70s here yet in FL... I believe we are in the 80's but it still feels like 90s...plus it's wet. I want a clear blue sky and a cool breeze... is that too much to ask!? Guess I have to wait a bit longer... but boy oh boy I cannot wait!

    Still haven't tried Halloween oreos... I have to make sure I write them down on my grocery list for my next trip!

    1. Haha 70's feels nice after we were stuck in the 50/60's the week before (saying that it's in the 50's most mornings). Those Halloween oreas are so good - we also brought a load of candy for Halloween but i'm not sure they'll be hanging around for that long!

  6. YES - tea, tea, tea, leaves changing colors, and apple picking :) There's nothing better! I've been really into chai teas lately (not the fancy lattes; just the plain-jane tea bags from a box!) and have especially loved Tazo's pumpkin spice chai and a traditional black chai tea from Target :) Add a little almond milk and cinnamon and it's the perfect fall drink! Unfortunately there aren't any places near my university to go apple picking, so I haven't been able to do that just yet...but I may be taking a trip home in the near future and perhaps I can go to one of my beloved orchards in Michigan!
    I love posts like these - it's neat to see what you've been loving lately!

    1. I should try the chai teas again, I tried some years ago at university but didn't take the time to really get into them. While pick your own rapsberries is pretty popular in the UK, there isn't really many orchards you can really do the same, not even a tiny version. I love how you even get a little petting zoo and rides for children, so much fun!

  7. I'm liking the sound of the birthday cake! oh and HAPPY BIRTHDAY too!! I agree though, no one cares about your birthday when you're an expat (actually no one cares in general anymore, but that's another blog post for another day!).

    I'm going on a whim and saying yay 70s! Because I still have no idea what temperature that relates to, but if you're happy, I'm happy :D

    I think our TV shows start next week! I'm exited for that, I love me some TV!

    I hope you have a great day today, even if birthdays kind of suck, but enjoy the cake and enjoy the weather and enjoy a day just for you. l

    1. Yeah i'm a lazy bones and I love my nights in front of the TV, kinda bad oops. Birthdays are weird, I never really had big celebrations for them growing up and now if I could, I'd happily ignore them. Not acknowledging that i'm 30 in two years, that sounds too old for my liking lol.

  8. Happy birthday! I haven't really experienced an expat birthday yet - the first I was back home and the second I was in New Orleans...maybe I subconsciously planned it that way to avoid wanting to brush it under the carpet for the same reasons as you. The marshmallow and chocolate birthday cake sounds amazing though...maybe you need to share the recipe for that one?! I feel your pain on being busy though - it's been non-stop here! Have a fab birthday! X

    1. Thank you! I think i'm going to be baking a raspberry cake instead, mainly because I have all those ingredients but i'll certainly end up making that marshmallow cake in the future - sounds far too delicious not too!

  9. Sushi is always on my happy list, and finding a good one in London isnt as easy as you might think! Vacations are on my happy list, I'm currently shying the cold England weather and spending family time in San Diego.
